“My practice is sustained by the malleable nature of mixed media processes in which certain elements can be concealed while others are emphasized. My paintings are intensely layered, and evolve through an active, gestural process; I begin with generous colour and bold mark making, seeking to capture raw energy and personal reflections in a free and intuitive way.  The resulting marks create the design problems that are resolved in subsequent layers, both opaque and transparent, allowing some elements to come into play while others are suppressed. I work on large canvases to incorporate gestural marks and movement and the work is improvisational in nature; I don’t begin with a preconceived plan, rather, I gather elements to respond with through constant collection and regular practice, striving to balance intuition and control on the canvas.”
